D. L. Heather is a nonfiction author and poet. Her previous works include Metamorphosis and Life Interrupted. In this interview, she tells us a bit about herself and her latest book, Petals of Healing, available December 3rd, 2021:

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A: Hi, my name is Debra, I’m 42. I was born in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, and now call Detroit home. I’m a private person by nature, an introvert and I try to let my work speak for itself, in the way writing allows me to. When I’m not writing in the studio, I enjoy travelling, reading, movies, and gardening.
Q: Tell us about your book.
A: Petals of Healing is part memoir, part self-help. This book is a companion for life’s most difficult times, revealing how grief can open our hearts to connection, compassion, and the very essence of our shared humanity.
Q: What inspired you to write this book?
A: Petals of healing was born out of a desperate need for me to pull myself from rock bottom after the deaths of my childhood friend, father, and grandmother.
Q: Why should people read your book?
A: Anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one is familiar with the bottomless pit of despair that it leaves you with and the constant question pounding in your head: How am I going to survive this? Writing this book is not only cathartic but allows me to uncover precious gems of insight through reflective thought and exploration that hopefully resonates with my readers.
Q: What do you like most about writing?
A: Writing has always been my outlet. My writing is so closely linked to my personal experiences, regardless of what it is that I’m writing. It’s a way for me to process things and understand myself. It’s a way for me to escape the restrictions of my own life (such as grief, heartbreak, and childhood trauma). It allows me to feel free again.
Q: If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
A: Always speak your truth and don’t listen to anyone who doubts you.
Q: Where can people find out more about you and your work?
A: On my website www.dlheatherbooks.net Instagram: @author.dlheather Twitter: @AuthorDLHeather
A: Where can your books be purchased?
Q: You can purchase my books pretty much anywhere books are sold. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Chapters.
